I always forget how crazy the first couple weeks of school can be. I am finally starting to settle into a schedule (although I am pretty sure I will never get used to work starting at 7:15) so I am planning to be back and in action later this week.
To be honest though, I am in a new school this year and am apprehensive about accessing my blog on the school's network. This is actually quite silly, because I have accessed my google reader a few times, which is kind of tied to my blog, and I have even pulled up a few of your blogs and commented with my blogger account. Also, I accessed my blog all the time last year, and technically it is the same network even though I am in a different school. So I guess it is just me being crazy, but still...I only want to dip in one toe at a time. Bear with me, please!
I hope you are all doing well and I look forward to getting back into the swing of things soon! I am going to hit the dreaded "Mark All as Read" button because I just don't see myself catching up with all your lovely blogs in the next couple of days. Let me know if I have missed something noteworthy!

20SB: Looking Back
This post is a part of 20SB’s Looking Back Blog Carnival, and Ben & Jerry’s is awarding free ice cream to lucky bloggers and readers! For more information, including how to participate, click here.
I've been at a loss for interesting blog topics lately, but lucky for me, and all the other blocked bloggers out there, 20 Something Bloggers is having a Blogger Carnival! The topic is "Looking Back" and they want to see what we were like back when we first started blogging. So before I reflect on how I've changed since I first began blogging, let's look at a post from April 24th, 2008, only the 5th post I EVER wrote.

But, now I feel awkward.....
I guess it's because I don't know the blog world social etiquette. Is it weird to comment on someone's blog if you don't know them? Should I introduce myself before declaring that I'm a "reader"? What are the rules, what are the rules!?!?*
I suppose it sounds pretty stupid, but I feel like I'm back in 8th grade and I'm the new girl at school who is trying to make some friends. It especially hits home since I am moving to a new city in two weeks! I guess I feel like it is strange to try and make (blog)friends because I have always had the convenience of a surefire network of potential friends (i.e. first college roommate, cheer team, grad program, etc.) and this is more open/unrestricted and also carries the possibility of rejection. Does that make sense?
I think this is a nice description of the situ:
Ultimately, I'm sure it's no big deal and people would be flattered to know I find their writing interesting, but until I am comfortable as a blogger, I will fret about my blog social skills!
BTW, I love someecards. They are hysterical and often speak to me!
*Does that phrase remind anyone else of the Betty Crocker commercial where the kid flips out that Santa is going to leave because someone ate the cookies? LOVE THAT COMMERCIAL
Obviously I was a scaredy cat when I first started blogging and had no idea how things worked. I have come a long way since then, commenting on hundreds of blogs and reading many, many more. I have also made some amazing friends along the way and am so glad I stuck with blogging, commented, added people to my blog roll, and got out and met up with bloggers once I arrived in DC. With the exception of a few people (and my husband's friends), ALL of the people that I spend time with on a regular basis I have met through blogging. And I couldn't be more grateful for them.
I chose to revisit this particular post because I am sure there are new bloggers out there that may be feeling the same way I did way back when. Even if this post only helps one person realize that they are not alone and that they should stick with blogging, I'll be happy.

Blog Social Skills
My secretary at DSS left my calendar open today so that I would have plenty of time to pack up my stuff, say goodbye to all my tutees, and catch up on the last minute office gossip. Most of my day was spent on the latter, but I still ended up having a lot of free time this afternoon. After finally posting again, I got sucked into the blog world and spent most of the afternoon browsing others' blogs. Two hours later......I found some I like, commented, and have added a link to them on my page. But, now I feel awkward.....

Gap and Brand About Town
While drafting this post I noticed that Miss Heidi already wrote about meeting with Brand About Town rep Justine and talked about the meeting that a bunch of bloggers in DC (and other cities around the country) got to have. Let me break it down real quick.
Gap is about to start a new marketing program and a bunch of bloggers are going to be chosen to try out and review their new line of jeans. If picked, we get to throw a party for our friends so that we can experience the jeans before they hit stores in August. Justine emailed me to meet with her about potentially being one of those people. How fun is that?
We met at a coffee shop in DC, and after talking with Justine about her marketing company, the campaign, and my blog, she took me to the Gap to buy a new outfit. What an awesome surprise! Last night I finally got to wear my new outfit, so of course I wanted to share it all with you!
Since you can't see the details of the two pieces in this picture, I had my darling husband take some close-ups.
The collar on this shirt actually lies flat so I clipped it with two bobby pins to add some fluff.

I paired the top and shorts with my favorite pair of gray Nine West heels. It is so rare for me to not wear a dress when I go out in the summer, but I think this outfit was the perfect way to branch out.
Thank you Brand About Town and Gap for this awesome opportunity!

Blogger FAIL
My last two posts haven't shown up in google reader. Anyone know how to fix this? The first one I posted 24 hours ago.
Ugh! I need a tech savy friend.
EDITED TO ADD:
From nitecruzr, someone who responded to my cry for help....
Feeds, like other components in custom domain published blogs, are affected by the BlogSpot URL redirect problem.
Ahh, so apparently custom blog addresses aren't working and blogspot addresses aren't redirecting like they normally do. BOOO!
Hopefully this will all be fixed soon! If you still have my old blogspot address in your reader, then the posts will not show up. Please update your reader with my new domain:

Blog Roll
Yesterday I realized that my blog roll disappeared when I bought my own domain and blogger moved my site to the new address. I want to link to all the awesome blogs out there, so if you want to be included, please let me know! Also, if you are a DC blogger, can you note that too. Thanks!!

I've noticed that I have a lot of new followers and subscribers to my blog. As I have mentioned before, when I try to click and see your profiles in the "following box" I usually end of screwing with something. So, if you are new to my blog, say hello (through a comment) so that I can find you and read your blog too!

FYI
Just wanted to let everyone know that I decided to remove my real name from my blog. Since I am currently applying for jobs, I figure it is better to play it safe. So, when I comment on your posts you'll see The Northerner!

Leave me your best name suggestion in the comments for your chance to win a Boatman Geller alligator collection, including a box set, personalized notepads, wine tags, coasters, and luggage tags! This contest will be open until Sunday, April 26th. You must include your email address along with your name suggestion to be considered. We will then review the suggestions, pick our top three favorites, and create a poll on the Boatman Geller Facebook page that will be used to determine the ultimate winner!

Pretty, New Things
After a long, taxing day at work (I am having a hard time transitioning back into work mode after an 11 day spring break), I came home to a nice surprise from Lauren Nicole Gifts.
The other night I read a Lauren Nicole Gifts blog post that said:
"I have a bunch of things that I want to give away (products that I took off of the website because I only have one left). The first TEN bloggers to leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite Easter memory was will get one of these items."
I just happened to be one of the first ten bloggers to respond and I am LOVING the sterling silver engraved pendant she sent me!
This picture doesn't do the pendant justice (the flash makes it look scratched and I think you can see my fingerprint, haha), but it is definitely beautiful in person. I especially love it because it's got my new* monogram.
Now, the good news for you is that Lauren Nicole Gifts is planning to do more "grab bag giveaways" each month for the next few months, so make sure you are subscribed to her blog!
Also, my friend Julie from Wearing Mascara has asked that I check to make sure all her readers know that she recently switched to WordPress. So....everyone make sure wearingmascara.com is showing up in your Google reader because Julie has moved!!
*At what point is this not my new monogram, but my actual monogram? Same as being a newlywed?

Following Sucks!
I have decided I do not like the "follow" feature of Blogger.
If you are following me, you may want to add me to a feed reader (if you would still like to read my blog, of course), because I think I am going to delete the following gadget on my blog....unless Blogger gets on the following issues (no pun intended).
First, I somehow keep following myself. When I see that I have new followers I click on the picture to see who they are and so I can read their blog too, and the next thing I know it says I am following "Always a Northerner". Hello Google Friend Connect or whatever you are, I AM Always a Northerner, why would I want to follow myself!?
After clicking around for a while I am usually able to stop following, but it is a tedious process because well, it is ME, and the program doesn't understand what I am trying to do. I also can't remember how to un-follow myself, so now I am trying to click around again and it's not working. Ugh!
Another problem I have found with following blogs....posts often end up in my reader twice. Once for the subscription I initially added into Google Reader and then once for following. I have tried deleting the original subscription, but that doesnt' seem to work, because certain blogs are still showing up twice.
Anyone else having these problems? Any solutions?
ETA: I received some great tips on following, so hopefully I can work out the kinks and keep the gadget. If not though, people will still be able to follow me, I just won't be following you. I will, however, add you to my reader, so don't worry, I will still keep up with all your blogs!

Unmotivated
I have tried writing seven different posts today. After each initial sentence I hit delete and switch topics. Everything I want to write about seems so daunting and will take a lot of effort and I am just not feeling it lately. Maybe I will be more inspired to write next week....

A Winner....Finally!
I just realized I haven't posted at all, about anything, in over a week. Anyone else feel like the last few weeks have FLOWN by? It's almost Thanksgiving!
I didn't forgot about the giveaway, I swear!
Today I finally got a chance to run a bunch of errands and pick up a $10 gift card to Borders.
Anyway, my lovely husband just assisted me in drawing a name and the winner is.....
...Britni!
Thank you to everyone that left me a recommendation...I have already mooched a bunch of books and can't wait to dive into them all this winter!

My First Giveaway!
Tonight I met with some book club friends, and as a result of our conversation, I decided to join BookMooch. The site has you list books you are willing to send to members, and in return you can mooch books off other members. But first, I have to make a wish list of books I want to read.
So my friends, I am in need of book recommendations. If you would please leave me a comment with amazing books you have read, I will enter you in my first giveaway! Be sure to leave some kind of contact information as well. A randomly selected winner will receive a $10 gift card to Borders.
This giveaway is open to US and Canada residents only and will close at 9:00 PM EST on Sunday, November 9th.
To assist you with your recommendations, I will leave you with a list of the last few books I have read:
Little Children by Tom Perrotta
Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner
Cross by James Patterson
Not So Snow White by Donna Kauffman
I can't wait to hear your recommendations!

Here's To You!
Back when I was a lonely, friendless blogger I wrote this post about not knowing how to comment and being afraid that noone would like what I wanted to write about. In the past couple weeks (and months in one case) I have received some really nice awards from some of my favorite bloggers. Now it's my turn to make someone else's day!
I received my first blogging award, the Spreader of Love Award, back in June from Britni at Play More, Laugh More, Live More (sorry for the delay!) . This really meant a lot because I received it right before my wedding and, well, everyone wants some love regarding their love right before the big day. Today I give the Spreader of Love Award to Katie at La Petite Chic because she is about to celebrate her 2nd anniversary and is still very much in love! I hope to be as happy and fun-loving as her and her husband when we celebrate our 2nd anniversary.

Last week I received the Blogs That Make My Day Award from Laurie at Newly-Wedded Wife, which was so awesome because her blog is one of the first I read and it will always be one of my favorites. I give this award to RA at Definitely RA because she is an amazing writer, has an awesome writing style, and always intrigues me with her posts. I feel smart when reading what she writes and that always makes my day! Plus, she is as sweet in person as she seems on her blog...always a plus.
Most recently I received the Diamond Award from Ashley at My Life as a Crazy Cat Lady, who offered me a lot of advice before I started my internship and has recently given me many reasons to shop online (including buying from DownEast Basics). I think Brandi from That's What She Said is most deserving of this award because she is a relatively new blogger that does a really nice job chronicling the life of a crafty newlywed...and is most recently a new homeowner!
Thank you so much to the girls that gave me the awards! It really means a lot :)
And congrats to all those new award winners, I hope it helps to make your day special!

The Next Time You Hear From Me (Sort Of), I'll Be A Mrs.
Since I will most definitely not be bringing a laptop to NC or on our honeymoon, I have decided to do the auto post thing that Britni introduced me to when she went on a cruise last month.
My parents are stopping in DC this weekend, Alson's sister and parents are stopping in on Monday, and then we are headed to Pinehurst on Tuesday.....so it is about time I start working on the posts I will schedule for when we are off getting married and then relaxing on the beach.
Since I ventured into the blog world far into the wedding planning process and many of you don't know much about the details of our big day, I have decided to post mainly about different aspects of the wedding, or things leading up to the wedding. I will try to avoid any topics we have already covered in the past two months. Speaking of all those previous wedding posts...thank you all for the well wishes and tips to stay sane on the big day, I will definitely keep them in mind when I am breathing into a paper bag before I have to walk down the aisle.
Just kidding. I think.
So unless I get super motivated and decide to do a "live post" sometime before we leave for the wedding....this will be my last post as an unmarried gal. CRAZY!

Not Feeling It....
Since the move, I have had no real desire to blog. I dunno what it is? I have lots to write about...and lots of pictures documenting the last week, but I just don't feel like it. I have been using Alson's laptop because mine is still packed somewhere, so I can't actually upload pics from my camera onto his computer, so that may be holding me back. Also, there are still a few things around the apartment that we need to take care of (our bedroom, for example, still has a lot of clutter that somehow needs to be stored).
The stress of it all has worn me down (damn you DMV!!), but I do love all the fun and exciting things to do in our neighborhood! And tonight I ate Thai food for the first time; that is an accomplishment :)
Maybe once I feel more at ease with everything I will once again be inspired.
