The Good, Bad, and Ugly

The Good:
We have the key to our new place! We are going to start moving stuff (primarily books and the furniture we got at some yard sales this past weekend) when AJ gets home from work! Then we have to unload the boxes and bring them back to the apartment so that we can re-use them. Our current place is so full of crap and boxes that we can't pack everything at once. Expect "before" pictures sometime soon!!

The Bad:

On Friday our TV broke. We got the TV when we moved into our current place as a housewarming gift from my parents, which means it is a little more than a year old. We had it mounted on the wall, but took it down last week so that we could fill the holes, sand, and paint. I'm not sure what happened during that process (or if it is at all related), but now our TV is not working. We have no picture, just sound. Also, when we turn the TV on it makes this weird hissing sound twice. Luckily my parents bought a 3 year warranty and someone is coming out to fix it on Saturday. Without a TV, we have been spending our time at home listening to the radio, playing board games, and watching movies/TV shows from Netflix on my computer.

The Ugly:

During that painting process, I also somehow got RED PAINT on my favorite Lilly sweater.

I wasn't wearing it, but it was draped on the back of a bar chair in the same room where we were painting. It is a white cardigan that I have had for 6 years that probably needed to be sent to Goodwill anyway (it is looking a little dingy in this picture), but it is so soft and comfy from years of good use that I am so sad it finally has to go.

  1. Depending on what type of pain it is, you could try soaking the spots in a solvent. Rubbing alcohol and cheap hair spray work on some paints, inks, and markers. Hope that helps!

  2. Oh dear, so sorry about your sweater! You can't send it to Goodwill, you can wear it at home on a rainy day!

  3. oh man, i hate when an article of clothing i've had forever gets destroyed! it's so depressing, like losing a friend. but as you said, most of the time we should have let these things go already so it's a good kick in the pants, but it still stinks!

sorry about the tv, that would drive me nuts. except i have a million things i need to do without tv these days... i'm just too lazy to turn it off : )

  4. If it's comfortable, why don't you keep it? You could always wear it when you're staying in and reading a book.

  5. Maybe the paint was a way of telling you it's time to let go... hehe. Just kidding! Seriously though I would be really bummed if something like that happened to any of my clothes. Also-- a paint tip-- if your paint is splattering back like that it typically means you need more paint on the roller.

  6. I think you can get paint out of clothes, I've done it a few times, especially for smaller areas, like your sweater looks like. If you can do it, I say there's no reason to sacrifice a perfectly good sweater! I understand how hard it is to get rid of comfy, worn-in, fits-just-right kind of clothes!

Good luck with the move & getting everything set up!

  7. Speaking of ruining clothes - of course I tried to be helpful and do my boyfriends laundry for the first time ever at my place before I move out of there. I had to shrink his absolute favorite shirt right? Everything else that I noticed that wasn't dryer-proof, didn't go in the dryer. But that favorite one snuck in of course :(

    It's itty bitty.

  8. Speaking from VAST experience over the past few weeks, most paint is water-based now and can be easily removed from clothing. Give it a try! Hope the TV is up and running soon, although it sounds like a great excuse to do more with my evenings.
