Good Times & Bad

Wow. I can't believe my post about going off the pill got so much attention! I think it received more comments than any other post I have written in the year and a half I've had this blog. Crazy!

I want to thank everyone for all the supportive and informative comments and emails. I was so nervous to post about my decision, but I am glad I did. I love that blogging opens up communication about various topics. Many people were not familiar with NFP and/or FAM, but are now interested in learning more. A lot of people also mentioned that they would like to know how my experience goes. I will definitely keep you all updated when I have more to report! I imagine I will have a lot to say in a month or so. If in the meantime anyone has any questions, feel free to email me.

Moving on....

Today was not good. The morning started out fine, but around 9 o'clock I got a message from AJ alerting me that his locker at school had been broken into and every single one of his law books was stolen. He was so upset. I hated that I was at work and couldn't be there for him. So far there is no word from the school or the police, but the bookstores in the area are on the lookout for anyone that tries to sell them back. The police will also be checking the surveillance cameras they have throughout the law school, so perhaps they will get a lead from there. I can't believe someone would steal his books, but they are so expensive that someone probably wants to make a quick buck. SO UPSETTING. Not only is there an obvious monetary loss, but AJ took a ton of notes in the book margins and those are all gone too.

In an effort to make him feel better (because the walk/run/walk we took wasn't cutting it), I whipped up some pumpkin cheesecake while dinner (chicken and biscuits...perfect for this fall weather) was baking in the oven. I posted about this super easy recipe last year, but it is so short and simple that I will post it again.

Mix one tub Philadelphia Ready to Eat Cheesecake filling with a 12oz. can of 100% pure pumpkin, two teaspoons of ground cinnamon, and a half teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Pour into graham cracker crust and top with cinnamon sugar. Refrigerate for an hour. Viola!

I'm also letting him control the remote tonight. I know, I'm the best wife ever ;)

Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day!

  1. I saw your tweet this morning about the books - that just sucks. I mean... who gets it in their head that it's a good idea to steal someone's books.

Prayers for you guys... but also for the creep that took the books. I can only imagine that the person who took them is seriously desperate and hopefully they don't steal other people's books as well...

Now I am seriously craving that cheesecake... it sounds SO good!!

Can't wait to see how your NFP experiences go... haha does that sound creepy?

  2. Oh no, I'm so sorry! I hope that they figure it out...I can't believe people that do things like that.

  4. That's awful about the books! Who would do a thing like that? I hope they find them!

  5. Honestly, as an ex-law student I can say this - who the f steals textbooks? That is just crazy and mean and horrible and really? Doesn't give you that much money if they are USED.

I'm so sorry. I still have a LOT of my old books, granted they are OLD, but if he needs anything just say the word and I'll send them to you.

  7. I'm still so stunned that someone would take his books. I really hope they find the person soon! Seriously sucks.

But I'm sure those pumpkin cheesecakes made up for it :) At least a little!

  8. That's terrible and disgusting. I know grad students live, breathe, and would do anything for our textbooks. I feel so bad for him...but at least he has a great wife, food always helps ease the pain! I hope they find the books or at least the perp.

  9. Oh no! I can't believe someone would do that. How terrible. I know how brutally expensive the books can be ... and the notes ... ahh ... I would be so upset. I hope that the police are able to find them.

And that cheesecake sounds so delicious!

  12. How could someone do that? I feel so bad for AJ, especially b/c of the notes in the margins:( Hopefully they'll turn up soon! Oh, and I'm def going to try your pumpkin pie recipe tonight!

  13. I still can't believe that someone stole all of his textbooks. Ridiculous. I remember how much textbooks cost when I was in grad school, and...I know if I multiply that by gazillion, that's how much AJ spent on his law school books. Blech. I hope they find that a-hole.

And - holy crap, pumpkin cheesecake!!!!!!!! I happen to have one unopened can of pumpkin...do you use the BIG can, or the small can? I think I must have a 28 oz can or something like that.

  14. I'm so sorry someone did that, that just... sucks. That's the only word I can say that sums it up. Ugh, I just don't understand the lack of decency with so many people. On a lighter note that pumpkin cheesecake sounds amazing and since I don't bake or usually do desserts it's a good thing it also seems simple! :)

you are a sweet wife, i'm sure your hubby appreciated your efforts to cheer him up :)

  17. That is sooo shitty that someone stole his books!!! I guess at least it wasn't during finals?? I hope they catch the jerk(s) who did that!

  18. Sorry to hear about that. I hope they can recover the books. Thanks for the recipe, I need something fun for Thanksgiving. Last year I made peanut butter pie, which while good, is not so festive haha.

  20. I can't believe someone would steal books. That's ridiculous! I'm so sorry for AJ though. I know firsthand how difficult it is to be violated like that. Bastards. Anyways, I'm sure things will look up soon. Miss you and yes, you are a very good wife!

  21. You deserve a fabulous wifey award! That cheesecake sounds right up my alley!

  22. So sorry to hear about AJ's stolen books. Besides the monetary loss, it's just an awful feeling to have something stolen from you. It reminds me that there are people in the world who don't respect others' property or care about how awful it would feel to have something so valuable taken from them. And THAT makes me sick to my stomach!

  23. I am really sorry to hear someone stole his books, that is *so* low, honestly. We're big believers in the 'what goes around comes around' philosophy, and know that whoever did it will reap the returns from doing such an awful thing, but that is no consolation when it is time to pay for new books.

You are a sweetie though to try and make him feel better, and to share the secret recipe with us!

Sending you a hug Miss Northerner,
    tp

  24. I'm really sorry to hear about the book theft, how low! He is certainly lucky to have such an empathetic and caring wife...and a wife that makes pumpkin cheesecake. :)

  25. That recipe sounds dangerously delicious! And that is horrible about his law books, people are ridiculous to do such things! Hope you feel better soon!

  26. Some girls in my high school stole text books and then resold them at UCLA (where we bought them). They were stupid enough to show their IDs so they were caught. Maybe the person who took A's will sell them back and be caught. I hope they find whoever did it!
