Domestic Diva

If there is one thing I have learned during my first week on my own, it is that I am SPOILED. I always knew that my husband did a lot for me and was a big part of helping to keep our house /life in order, but man...I did not realize how much work it is!!

Let me run through the things I had to do this week:

Walk Kona three times a day, feed Kona twice a day, make my lunch, make tea in the morning, go grocery shopping, carry the groceries in, put the groceries away, cook dinner, do the dishes, empty the dishwasher, do the laundry, fold the laundry, take out the garbage, recycle the wine bottles (yes, multiple), get my car inspected, change my registration sticker (which is a bitch...anyone that has a car in DC can affirm this), clean up dog vom, clean the kitchen, dust the house, sweep the floors, water the flowers, make the bed, pay a bunch of bills, etc.

I do a few of those things on a regular basis, but doing all of them on my own made me feel like I didn't sit down this entire week. (Don't let me fool you, I did sit down....I even watched 3 hours of RHNJ one night, but you know what I mean!) I guess all this house work is good though, because it has helped to tire me out and I have slept pretty well each night (with the exception of the first night).

Anyway, it made me realize how lucky I am and that I am so thankful to have someone that helps me out so much! Do you all do this stuff on your own or does your significant other help you out? If you do it on your own, how do you do it on a regular basis?! I need your tips!

  1. It's a freakin' full-time job in itself, isn't it? I've been a stay-at-home housewife for a little over a month now and with my new status came the responsibility to do most of those things! on a daily basis! it's crazy how much work it is! granted, i have pregnancy on my side and have most definitely used it to get out of things like carrying full laundry baskets up and down the stairs and taking out the trash.. but in all honesty? sometimes there aren't enough hours in the day to get these things done! and finding the motivation? so difficult.. let's not even start in about walking the dog three times a day.. Haha! Poor Sullivan! Sometimes I just want to tie him to a tree in the backyard!!

  2. My hubby helps with a lot of those things too and sometimes I don't appreciate it but I sure do notice when he's away or when he's busy with overtime and so on ... ! We are lucky to have great guys.

  3. Awe, I seem to appreciate all that Q does when he is away as well! The "little" things really add up! I have designated certain jobs for different days. Bathrooms get their own day and laundry gets its own day and stuff like that. And, I know this sounds silly but at night I will set the oven timer for 15 minutes. If you get right down to it, if you do this every night, the house will always be picked up!

  6. I hear you! My husband never did much -- household cleaning, laundry, etc., always fell on me -- but he DID clean the kitchen after I cooked every night, and when he moved away I missed it so much! My advice is just do a little each night, instead of trying to do a general cleaning one day a week. If I'm watching TV, I'll use each commercial to get something done; one to unload the dishwasher, the next to sweep the bathroom floor, the next to swap the laundry, etc. A little bit every day gets as much done as a major one-night-a-week overhaul, but is a lot easier.
