This morning I set out to find a dress for a wedding we are attending this Friday (Yes, we! I get to see my husband this weekend!). I decided to check out Target to see if they had any cheap options. I ended up purchasing this Ruffle Tank Dress for $20, but I am not sure if it is dressy enough for a wedding. I mean, it is from the juniors section and the top is cottony. What are your thoughts? And what about the black? Is that still a no-no?
Here is the dress without accessories:
Better with the long chain necklace?
More sophisticated when looped twice with some pearls added in?
Help me decide, please!
I also tried on this Zac Posen for Target Two-Piece Ruffled Dress. It was super fun, but I didn't buy it because the only dress available in my size had a rip on one of the ruffles.
Is this dress over the top? I might go to another Target to get it.... Thoughts?
Some days are harder than others…

A rule of thumb, if the wedding is at nighttime (after 4:30pm), you can wear black! So many people wore black to our wedding, I think it looks classy!
ReplyDeleteAs for the dresses, I like both of them! I really really like the last dress, the Zac Posen one, it's super-cute and with minimal accessories and subdued shoes, I think it'd look awesome! If you do go with the first dress, I liked it best with the pearls!
Enough with the exclamation marks and onto report-writing, can you tell I was super-pumped for a diversion?
I think this is totally appropriate for a wedding! See also: very cute. And you can wear it again, so it's not a one-shot piece.
ReplyDeleteI like the Zac Posen one, but if it was already ripped on the rack, even buying a new one would worry me - I'd always think it was going to fall apart that easily!
I think it looks cute! I think people tend to wear colors and florals more in the spring and dark colors (black) for fall and winter weddings. That being said, I think it's cute and you can pull it off-- it's not like there will be fashion police there (I hope). Also, I like it better without the pearls!
ReplyDeleteBlack is fine and I think it looks dressed up enough with the jewelery. I would have to see the ZP number on to make a decision, but I think it would look super cute on someone very slender!
ReplyDeleteI agree that if the wedding is an evening one, black is okay. Definitely like the 2nd one better for a wedding. Not sure how dressy it will be though. Could you ask some other girls what they are wearing? If you do wear the first one, i like the first necklace....the other one is too much with the ruffle skirt. Either way, I think you will be super cute! :) Have fun with your hubby!
ReplyDeleteI really like both dresses but I think the first one is my favorite. And I think I liked the first accessories pic you had.
ReplyDeleteI do like the dress, I don't like it for a wedding. Is it wrong that I'm the only person that feels this way? I do think black is ok these days, but that one just looks young. The second one has fabulous potential!
ReplyDeletei think it's good for a wedding when you paired it with the second set of accessories. I really like it! I find that at weddings you see such a huge variety of outfits that you're never really THAT out of place...
ReplyDeleteI love this style! And your blog is great! I just bought a dress similar to this one at Express! Can't go wrong with w dress like this!
ReplyDeleteI love the first dress with the second necklace. It fits you great and adds some great texture to the look. Adorable!
ReplyDeleteI like the dress and I think black is definitely fine to wear to weddings, but I honestly think this one just isn't dressy enough for a wedding. It's perfect for a night out with the hubby or the girls, but I personally wouldn't wear it to a wedding. Sorry!
