An update on the last few months

I am now in the home stretch! Here is an update on the last few months...

At the beginning of April we went on a babymoon to Clearwater Beach, Florida. After a hiccup at our first hotel, which we had bid on and won at a charity event auction, we settled into a nice resort and had a relaxing time. I am so glad we took one last pre-baby vacation and got some alone time with each other. The last time we took a nice trip on our own was our honeymoon....which was almost four years ago!

My aunts threw me a baby shower at the end of April. Our families and friends were very generous and we have just about everything we need for the baby!

At the beginning of May, my parents took us on an overnight getaway to Turning Stone Resort and Casino outside of Syracuse for my dad's birthday. We stayed at The Lodge, which was probably the nicest hotel I have ever been in. The rooms were huge and so luxurious. We all went to dinner at the Brazilian steakhouse and then spent some time in the casino that night. The next day the girls went to the spa and the boys played golf.

And on a less positive note.... This last week has been rough. I am starting to get really sore and am tired all the time again. I keep telling myself that I so badly wanted to be pregnant and should be grateful for making it this far, but sometimes having a pity party is easier. The second trimester honeymoon is definitely over. July can't come soon enough!

32 weeks

Day Trip to VA

It's my last day of vacation. I'm sad to have to go back to work (which probably says something, right?), but I thoroughly enjoyed my time off, so I am feeling pretty happy.

We had a wonderful time on our day trip to Virginia on Friday. We stopped at two wineries, one tasting shop, an inn for lunch, and an ice cream parlor. The wineries were both picturesque and the town of Middleburg was so charming. The weather was perfect and the only low point of the day was driving back into the city. It took us over two hours and I actually hopped out of the car once we got into the city so that I could metro home. Yes, I left my husband to survive the gridlock on his own. I could tell we were headed for a fight and this helped save the day. I got home approximately 30 seconds before him, but I was relaxed again and he was happy that he did not have to deal with a side seat driver. But enough about the drive home. We didn't make it down to the cherry blossoms, but we got to see them from a far and we might try to venture down to the tidal basin later this week once the tourists have packed up and gone home. No offense, tourists. Speaking of tourists, for a funny comparison of us vs. them read this post.

Feeling Grown Up

Tomorrow we are flying to Buffalo for a wedding. Our flight leaves the airport at 10:50 and we arrive in Buffalo around 12:30. I believe the wedding is at 2. Talk about cutting it close. Anyway, we are only going up for the night, so we are planning to carry-on and take a cab to the church as soon as we land. We will then put our bags in a friend's car and ride with them to the hotel, which doubles as the reception site. On Sunday we will take a cab back to the airport (unless someone is awake and offers to drop us off) after what I imagine will be a night of debauchery. We have another direct flight around 12:30 and will be home in time to make dinner.

Something about this trip really makes me feel like a grown up. Maybe it is that we are flying instead of driving. Maybe it is the direct flight. Maybe it is that we will be dressed for the wedding when we are on the plane. Maybe it is that we are seeing AJ's college friends for the first time since our wedding. Maybe it is that I finally am out of grad school and have a real job to talk about. Maybe it is the briefness of the trip.

It could also be any combination of those things.

I guess I don't know what it is, but I like it!

Side note: The hotel is right next to Niagara Falls. I am from Upstate NY, but somehow I have never been to the falls. Expect lots of pretty pictures upon our return!
