Any curly haired girls out there??
I am the lucky owner of a full head of curly hair. I straighten my hair almost always during the winter months....but now that the humidity season is upon us, it is time to start wearing my hair curly again. I am currently using Aveda be curly in an attempt to tame my tresses, but it just isn't working for me. I am not sure if it is because that is the only product I am using in the "4 step curl perfecting system" or if I need to try something new.
So....let me in on your favorite curly hair products! Tips on shampoos, conditioners, and anything else are all welcome.

Hair Woahs
Friday afternoon I went to get my haircut. Prior to arriving at the salon I couldn't decide if I just wanted a trim or if I wanted to cut it short.
I go through phases where I get sick of my hair and want something different. I used to change things up with color, but now that I have a real job, it doesn't seem appropriate to show up to work with jet black or bleach blond hair. Yes, I've had both.
Anyway, two seconds after sitting down at my stylist's station, he informed me that my hair looked terrible and I would look much better if I cut off the length. Well, okay then. I guess, we'll go short.
For comparison purposes, here is a recent picture where you can see the general length of my hair prior to getting it cut.

And here is what my hair looked like after the cut. I HATED IT. I felt like a 40 year old living in 1974. I balled my eyes out when I arrived home.
Now you know what I look like when I am unhappy and sans make-up.
I hate the one side of layers and I feel like the length is uneven. Ugh! I know I could go back and have the guy fix it, but I do not want him touching my hair again. I also don't want someone else to fix it, which would involve cutting it shorter, because now I am an anti-short hair and want it to grow back ASAP.
I have been flat ironing my hair to try and make myself semi-presentable, and I don't hate it as much as I did on Friday, but despite my smile, I am still not happy.
Two summers ago I cut my hair and I LOVED it. I think this was a couple weeks after the initial cut, but it was the shortest I had gone in a long time. And I had no cutter's remorse at all. I wish it looked like this again!

Looking back at this picture, it makes me think that cutting my hair a little bit shorter might make it look better. I guess my major problem with my current hair cut is that it looks like it is "growing out". Does that make sense? Oh, I know. It has no style. Ugghh. I should have just gotten the trim!

Hair Clarification
I had a mixed emotions weekend. I won't go into great detail because I am trying not to dwell on the negative stuff, but my Friday involved a flat tire in NC, a massive traffic jam on 95N, and a burglar in our neighborhood (don't worry he didn't get us, but still very unsettling). Needless to say, Friday sucked! I was worried that I would be grump city for the rest of the weekend, but thank goodness I was not. The weather, in combination with a visit from a grad school friend and her fiance, a visit to the dog park, and some QT with my husband, made for fun times on Saturday and Sunday! Shortest weekend recap to date.
This afternoon I ventured downtown for haircut. My hair was getting pretty gross on the ends (I straighten it almost every day), so I figured I should get a nice cut before an interview I have this coming Friday. I just asked for a trim, so it isn't drastically different, but it's still a change.
When I came home I asked Alson what he thought and he replied "I like it, it's an adult haircut." As soon as he saw the look on my face he knew I didn't like that response, so since then he has been buttering me up.
But of course, the original comment is the only one I remember. An adult haircut? What exactly does that mean?

The Spa....And Hair Trial
Today is my first day of pampering at the Spa at Pinehurst.
I will be making a few trips there this week, today by myself and Friday and Saturday with my bridesmaids, flower girl, and mom. My parents are treating me to the bridal package which includes:

So back to today, and my hair trial. I am planning on wearing this headband for the wedding (it matches the crystals in my dress...which you will get to see later this week!):
And I'm hoping to get hair kind of like this (without the sprig of whatever that is):
This may be hard to replicate, especially with the length of my hair, but a girl can hope right? At the very least, I want something visually interesting without being too fussy.

Extensions Solve All Hair Problems
After yesterday's hair cut and the realization that I may not have the hair do I imagined for the day of my wedding, I decided I needed to look into extensions. Getting them professionally done ranges anywhere from $800 to $1000 around DC and that is just wayyy out of my price range, so I googled the nearest Sally Beauty Supply for a little DIY project.
They had lots to chose from, and I was able to get two separate clip in extensions for only $60 dollars. I decided it would be weird if I had short hair for all the pre-wedding festivities, then suddenly had long flowing locks the day of the wedding....so I got one straight and one curly.
The straight one is a Revlon Length + One Piece Synthetic Hair Extensions. Sally's only had the 18 inch extension (not sure if there are other lengths), but when I first put it in Alson told me it looked like a mullet. I then spent an hour cutting and layering so that it would look natural when clipped in. I think I did a pretty good job considering I am not a hairstylist. This type of extension is similar to how Jessica Simpson's Hairdo extensions work, with a cap and snap clips, but was significantly cheaper. Here is a shot of my new straight hair:
I don't have a "before" shot....but if you can imagine, my actual length is at the shortest layer...about chin length.
The curly one is a Put On Pieces Ponytail Hair Extension. I figured my hair would be up anyway, so a simple clip in ponytail extension would be easy to integrate into a pretty updo. I will probably have the ponytail pinned up, but at least the added length will be there to give me some volume. Here is a shot of my curly hair (taken at the Tidal Basin with my cell phone):
Even if I don't actually use them for the wedding, (I am waiting for more critical people to examine them....i.e. my bridesmaids), they were only $60 dollars! Bottom line....hair crisis averted!
